N2 People is committed to providing good housing for migrant workers.
International temporary workers who work through N2People should feel “at home” with our company, as a personnel service provider in the Automotive – Technology and Logistics sectors, feel safe, and feel valued. This includes a certification requirement for employment agencies, efforts to train temporary workers, and certainly also good and certified housing! This was a reason to emphasize it again during a recent ABU members’ meeting!
New Law on Good Landlordship in the Works
With the Good Landlordship bill, the government aims to prevent and combat undesirable rental practices. The goal is to better protect job seekers, tenants, and labor migrants. ABU, NBBU, and LTO have jointly provided input on the bill.
“The labor migrant is not a second-class citizen, as Emile Roemer rightly stated. Therefore, we face two important tasks together: ensuring sufficient and good housing,” says Martijn Balster, Alderman for Housing at the municipality of The Hague and member of the VNG Committee on Space, Housing, and Mobility. “The debate needs to accelerate, and I hope that the Good Landlordship Law will lead to a quality boost in housing. It is necessary that parties renting to labor migrants can be held to standards of decency. A lot of good is already happening, especially by ABU members. But unfortunately, we still encounter very distressing situations. It is therefore good that municipalities will soon have tools to prevent undesirable housing practices.
“If clients use a location that is not SNF-certified, they should be held accountable for that.” Thus Eric Nabuurs, director of N2 People.
Better Control
“It should be clear that every ABU member stands for good landlordship,” says Eric Nabuurs, director of N2 People. “I welcome a rental permit, as it provides clarity. But what exactly will the criteria be? The Roemer Committee wants labor migrants to have their own lockable bedroom. Some of the housing already meets this standard. However, in many municipalities, it is not possible to realize new housing. The ABU fears that this measure will actually lead to a greater housing shortage.” According to Nabuurs, much could already be done to combat abuses. “But unfortunately, that is not happening. I hope that the new law will primarily lead to better control. All ABU members work with the SNF quality mark. But only a quarter of all housing locations for labor migrants are certified. If clients use a location that is not SNF-certified? Then they should definitely be held accountable for that.”
